We are a culmination of the life that we have lived till date.

It is not what has happened to us but how we have embraced the happening, is what builds up our character.

Our free will is the gift of life and this gift is beautifully adorned by Sneh lata.

"I have lived a wonderful life with him" - she says with a smile, sitting at the counter of the iconic book store in Dehradun, with a picture of her late husband at the backdrop.

Her smile and aura are the welcoming tone for every guest who visits the store.

A family venture established in 1923.

She happily remembers -
"We used to get up early in the morning, I used to do the cooking, uncle used to clean the house and together we used to get the kids ready for school and head to the bookstore. In those days there was no house help, we ran the house all by ourselves.

Whatever I know about running this book store today is all because of Uncle, he taught me everything".

She still gets up early morning, does her walk, makes her tea and enjoys it over a cup of conversation with her relatives, does her pooja after bathing, makes her own breakfast and lunch and after enjoying that, off she goes to, The English Book Depot.

While we were in the kitchen, she showed me the dishwasher her parents had gifted to her for her life after marriage and the images of her family tree.

She was an active member of the student union and profoundly remembers her meeting with Jawaharlal Nehru.

Peeling the banana skin with a knife at the breakfast table for me first, she talked about how her kids were, while growing up and how now they take turns to come and visit her. She has travelled several countries with her grandchildren and daughter-in-laws whose artworks adorn all bedrooms and drawing room of her home which she currently resides in.

As she gets ready to head to the book store, there is a certain child-like excitement to her which beams on her face, as if there is so much to look forward to and she is all ready for it.

The lifeline of English Book Depot - Sneh Lata.
